Quote from Derek:
September competition:
Since you guys are putting the time and effort in, I'm going to try and make this happen this month. In our next issue (December 2005) I'm going to make the Custom Works Colum feature the bodies in these paint contest. I might not be able to feature them all, but I want to try and get them in there as inspriration.

Now I can't promise this as 100% yet, because I do have a planned article, but I think it would be cool to show our readers of the print magazine your hard work on line."RC411 Paint Competition!"
Quote for page 25 of spet issue:
"Think that you can paint? Most of us can barely get two colors to match, but some of you can throw down a paint scheme that could be right at home on a church ceiling. So we want to see if you have got what it takes by entering our new monthly painting contest on our website. Check out the forums and hit up the painting section for guidelines and rules. The winner will be featured here [the mag] and win a free 6 month subscription of XRC!"
Quote from Derek:
"Don't forget that you guys still need to send the pictures in to our Racer Ride section. You can win a year subscription and some other junk like a Tee Shirt and XXX Main Video if you're pick the winner of the month."

"Send all Racers' Rides pics to derekb@rc411.com. Put "Racers' Rides" in the subject line."

Sorry about this, but the winner of last months comp is not in the november issue, because Derek was out of the country and could not get it in the magizine.

Winners:

June/July Best Paint:
RCpaint or Keith Harris from Scotia, NY!!!!!!

September Paint:

Prize of Choice: "How To Paint" a $14.99 value (USD)

jtcages, You can just post pictures on here if you are competting in the Paint contest. Just be sure to add all the information that is listed in the rules. if you are looking to send your pictures to Racers Rides

Submit photos of your ride, and if you're lucky, we'll put them in the Racers' Rides section in an upcoming issue of Xtreme RC Cars. All you need to do is give us some information about you and your ride, along a some high quality photographs (emphasis on the high quality).
Please email all digital submissions to Derek at the address below. Make sure to send individual files and not an archive (meaning no .zip files) and although we want high-resolution photos, we'd prefer to not receive a 100MB attachment. Use common sense, and you will have an even better chance of landing in the magazine!

HRDforever. I appreciate the offer! But to be honest with you, I have not been exactly XRC friendly and I think it is time to just watch instead of get involved. I really think that there are much better choices for Judges. to be honest with you, you should try Skeeno. He seems like a very cool guy.

Ok I am trying to do this right, since it is my first post with pics if it is wrong please go easy on me.
HPI supra body on a HPI rs4.
Hood has a carbon fiber look,
sides are styled with rivited metal, with torn edge look.
Parma paint and tamyia copper for the custom orange, Faschange red around the bottom backed with black.

Fantastic job on your Supra! Very well done indeed. :)
I'd like to enter my HPI,'Flipped out'...τΏτ= Lamborghini Murcielago I've used Faskolor flips for the graphics, stripes, and throughout the paint in general. I've painted the car starting with Sapphire flip, with transparent blue, and scrabbeus flip behind that, followed by pearl black. The graphics were done using jade and -my favorite!-> Maple flip. I like maple flip best, as it sometimes appears green -like jade- but red if viewed from the opposite direction -see pix-. This was all done using masking tape. -Remember to always keep your painting/striping tape bagged! NEVER lay it on it's side any place else..or your paint will weep, due to lint on your tape.- I like using flip for the graphics as it's not always easy to see the car has any at all...until the light changes! I've also tried a new trick on this car...I've painted my diff housings to appear anodized. I began with two thin coats of pearl silver, followed by transparent blue, light mist of sapphire flip, and two coats of Faskoat to keep them more resistant to nitro, and cleaning fluids. I hope you will find it to your liking...I've had a great time painting it.

Ok here goes my second submission
The stock HPI Savage SS body on the savage SS. All done in Faskolor paint. Starting from the front is some hand carved cartoon trible flames done with fasglitter purple backed with pearl red then pinstriped with faslucent purple. then to a underlaying checkered blob done with pearl white and black. On to a base made with pearl silver and pearl black. The blob is shadowed with pearl black and the flames are shaded with the purple. on the tail gate we got a slightly redesigned nitro fish done in purple backed with pearl silver. I am not big on using stickers so I only put on the headlights w/grill and tail lights, and window treatments.

Hello,

First time for me to post some pictures on this forum, excuse me for mij broken english, i'm from holland, Amsterdam.

It's a Protoform Nemessis in a "twister" design
First i used alclad chrome but not to thick so when i backed it with black it's getting a gun metal grey look, the sides of the body have a chequered design after that i painted the twister design in 3 fluor colors, pink, green and yellow.

the text "Insanity"and the joker are fluor green (faskolor)
Headlights also chrome.

Thanks! :) I think I like using flips a little too much at times... :o . To answer your question, Yes, they're all done using Faskolor flips, Jade and Maple for the most part, with Sapphire and Scrabbeus used in the car's base color.
I'm really liking your fresh Savage paint a lot!! Wicked cool graphics...very well done! Love your Nitrofish on back ;) I'm a big fan of checkers...and your great layout, and purple shading makes them look even better. Thanks for sharing!!

Mustang. Those are nice bodies but I cant help but notice that I have seen that body posted somewhere before! The reason I say that because I too at one time was going to make a body painted just like that with different colors. Has it been posted in another magazine or on a website by chance?

@ team3six,

First .. the body was painted by me, and yes i've posted it on another forum, but that was a dutch forum, and i doubt it if you've seen it there.
I had the idea that i had posted it before on this forum, but i was not certain about it... i couldn't find it here anymore.
As far as i know it wasn't published in a magazine, but i don't know what other's will do with my picture's ?

I remeber that somebody of xxxmain contacted me by email with a question if i could paint some truck body's for him, i replyed him that that it was oke for me and sended him some samples of painted bodies (including the nemessis)
after that he didn't respond anymore, i don't know if he published them anywhere ?

if you want a prove that the the nemessis is mine, i will prove it !
The design was also my own idea, can't help it but it's true !

as promised i will post new pictures like te "insanity" stratus, if you want a prove that it's mine you can ask me for a special picture of the nemessis body

hope that your doubt's are answered ?

Dude, look relax! I was just saying that I have seen it before somewhere and it is not like the body is common! OK fine if it is your's it is your's! I really dont care. I am NOT and will NOT accuse anyone of stealing pics to benifit them unless I have proof. But I am not lieing about seeing it on the web somewhere, how could I miss a Touring car body like that with twister written on the side of it! I know I have, I just cant place it and I did have that car saved in my pics files as of three days ago before my comupter had crashed. So maybe I have seen it posted here or somewhere before, if that is the case then great, No Problem. And yeah I have Yahoo and Google, whyen I do searches for pertiqular things I get everything because I leave my searches open. So it is possible that I had seen it that way. To my best recolection though, I do believe I seen it at a track on a car on the net and it was a website for someone who does airbrush painting. Why I had had it is because I have been searching for syles to paint and as 1 person on here will tell you I have hired them to paint a body for me that is a copy of someone elses work, because that person who originally painted the body has not ever returned e-mails. So that is why I mention it. Again sorry if it appears to be an accusation. But if I see it and I can prove it, then ONLY will I accuse someone of doing it. Other wise I think that Body is killer!

Thats an easy one. Mesh drywall tape is all that is needed to create that effect. Place the drywall tape in the desired area. Spray the main color, remove tape and spray backing color.

Well just my opinion but dont get mad at me and I am not the judge here. I really like all the cars styles so far. But I have seen the sparklies and I have seen the flames, I guess we all have seen it! But so far my vote if it were up to me would be a toss up between Mustang for making a bodie that you actually had to take lots of time to give it that swirl look, I guess it looks easy to most painters but I would guess not because you have to paint each hatch at a time to make them look the same pattern.
And IFLYBYU would have the other side of the vote for coming up with a way to paint something with a different method. I will say it looks pretty cool with that pattern, but the actual only thing that bugs me is not the Idea or the paint blend, but there is a tiny flaw in the design. I noticed that if you look closely to the small of the flame there was a cut or a patch of two strips that make a small pattern break. But other than that they are both very cool. dont kill me now!

I'm no judge....beginner if anything. I'll have agree with you totally! I also think the scallops are way past cool on IFLYBYU's truck! Curios how you were inspired...especially concerning the lay out of the tribal hood graphics. I can't wait to pose on your drywall tape idea! Love the trick 'carbon fiber' in back....τΏτ= 'Stickerless' too?! Sorry to be such a paint pirate...but without tricks from Y'all like that..I would really suck at this. :o Mustang, those swirls must have taken days to lay out! Wicked cool! I can't even begin to compliment the excellent shading you've got going on in all the right places ;) Love the snake eyes too....τΏτ- Seems 'stickerless'..which is a plus in my book! -unless the car style calls for it, of course.- Please forgive me if I've overlooked any of the other mighty fine entrants here, as Y'all all are throwing down in wicked fine style! No negative vibes here! I offer my personal thanks to everyone for taking the time, and going to the trouble to post pix of your high speed art here :D

THanks for the props guys...

THere is a flaw in the hatch as stated. I thought it was lined up correctly, so I think the airbrush pressure may have moved it....not sure though.

I must have drawn 6 or 7 designs on the body before i found one I likes. As for the scallops, here is why I had so many on that body. THe body with the fat flames was my first attempt at a real paint job(something more than one or 2 colors with masking tape) and i had a hard time cutting arcs in the liquid mask. So I decided to do a body with alot of arcs so that i could get practice. I tried practicing arcs on the inside of pop bottles, but I never really take it to serious when I am doing that. Also, I hate wasting liquid mask. That stuff is not cheap up in this neck of the woods.

Now you know my "inspiration".

GTLover,

What type of panit did you use? I have been doing alot of research on paint types and the correct ways to apply them to lexan.

Also, did you seal the paint job?

Hopefully we will figure out why your paint came off. ALot of work goes into a nice paint job and it is a sin to here of it getting ruined so quickly.

thank you. i dont remember what kind of paint it is. i can get it on like thursday. i like my paint job and it seems great for my first time. im geting a lst for x-mas so ill paint my body around the same idea but ill take more time. :D

I guess this is stuff you might already know, but clean the inside of the body well before you do anything. Hot water is the best for rinsing, cold or warm will leave oils and even your soap. I actually have gotten the best results using windex. but that is not the advise you will get from the pros. If you are using spray cans I would stick with pactra. It always worked for me. In my opinion the longer pactra dries between coats , the better. Good luck with your LST body. Dont put too much work into it, save that for a .60 lexan body. Your stock lst body ( unless the lst 2 is better?) is one of the thinnest bodies produced for any 1/8 monster.

Thanks for the compliments on the nemesis body,
good to hear that you notice that the swirls can't be brushed all at once and that you saw the shadows on it.
I painted the swirls in 3 steps, first i did a couple of swirls that were seperate from eachother, than again again a couple seperate from eachother and than the last ones.
If you paint it in 3 steps you won't get any overspray of the color to the next swirl, and that makes the swirls sharper.

I used liquid mask for the whole body and when you have a good plan of al the steps that have to be made you can save lots of time.
This body was masked only once, after that i did al the cutting at once and then started airbrushing from dark to light, between the layers i only had to peel the liquid mask.
Preparing as much as possible makes you work fast.

Im not sure how tough the LST race body is, the two thickest bodies I have handled are the Pro line crowd pleazer 2.0 and the parma 1/8 truck xciter. I have a Jconcepts illuzion here but I have not taken it out yet. Ill have to go check out how thick/stiff it is.

I like rcracer37's body. It looks fast.,like a race car. He also will be able to see it well on the track. Its really just my opinion but alot of super detailed bodies would be more at home in a art gallery than a race track. I like designs that are visible standing still AND at 50MPH.

Stan, You're right !..You can't see details with 50 mph
I like a body when it's good to see when it's going 50 mph with nice graphics, but i think you can have both !
A nice graphic that you can also see at top speed and details when the car stands still.

Dude , that is hillarious. I know you would like to win but promoting your paint job while slamming his?
Im just gonna have a little fun here, I apolagize in advance if I hurt anybodys feelings...
Somebody needs to take about 3 or 4 colors away from you. If a rastafarian and a detriot pimp had a baby, it would look like that gt body.
RCracer37's body has nice tight lines with no bleeding or jagged edges, that gt has bleed through, jagged lines and the stripes are far from symmetrical on the top.
I guess Im a phallus for ripping you, but I would pay for RC37's body. You could not pay me to take that GT body. I really hope you were joking, if not, you better check yo' self before you wreck yo' self, big truggies in your bum is bad for yo' health...............

If you want to see something really ugly that I painted ask SKEENO to post a pic of his OFNA Ultra LX body I painted for him..........

Just in case there are some ninjas out there thinking "who the hell are you to talk smack fat boy?" here are a few of my descent bodies. Im not the best, far, far from it. ADRC, charlie barnes, doug summers, franks bodies, those guys are the best. I envy those guys and alot of others , I try to do stuff that looks cool and only takes 2-3 hours of actual labor.

The following paint is not my design idea, but it came out quite good. I used createx paints on this one and eveything is hand cut liquid mask.

flyby, that is a sweet body. I have always thought it would be cool to paint a monster truck body with the scream movie guy on the hood, and cuts on the side with blood drips coming out. With blood color and look letteing "BLOODY MURDER" It would probably be a 50's pro line chevy painted black. Maybe someday, I have never tried it because I dont think I could pull off a realistic looking flesh wound for the drips.

I feel if Im going to post here I should represent. Make MikeV, DerekB, AndyM, DaveP, JasonY etc proud or al least not fall asleep if they cruise by the thread. If I wanted to be a nice little candy @$$ I know a few other mags that run forums for the kiddies............

I hope to get this body mounted on my sons new emaxx for entry into the contest. It is a parma maxx xciter. The design is just a rough quick sketch, done with overhead projector (vis-a-vis) pen. It comes off super easy for people like me who cant draw. The window masking that was included was very rough and was really not useable. Up next is 4 or 5 coats of masking............
