Well , no right now it is the smallest, but all of you guys can fix that! Got some pics of bodies you have painted? post them here. Not every body has to be saved for the paint contest.
Here is a 7.5 body I just finished. I left the createx blue silver a little thin so some orange would show through around the flames. It looks really cool in person, Painted with createx paints and glitter.

Hey Skeeno, thats awesome. I have been wanting you to post those bodies. I cant believe I let mike talk me into using those colors ( the blue one) . Yours is ok , The fact that those ultra comp body's look like army boots does not help. I declare mike's body (the blue one) the ugliest thing I have ever painted.
Hey Skeeno , I have had a bunch of people call me about racing, thats good news, but we can talk about that in our racing thread.............

Nice lids guys!

These tribal and flames bodies were the first 2 I painted. Flames for me and the tribal for a friend. The Camino body was my third. I am now working on a design for a Titan body that I'm anxious to get started on.

Nitro Dog, those are very nice. You did a great job with the camino carbon fiber. Here are a few Half 8 bodies I have done the last few months.

01-17-2006, 09:26 AM
Thanks, the carbon fiber seemed like the easiest part of the whole project. I will be using it again on my Titan project.

I like the color combos you used on those bodies.

I'm not sure but now that you mention it........ The only thing that I can think of is that the front skid plate is bent up almost like the havoc. The tires and wheels may do it also. They are RPM with Bowties.

I know it's kinda lame compared to the real talent here, but here's some pic's of paint I've done.

First is my t-maxx. The pic does not show it very well, but the chrome around the flames looks very realistic in person, shines like a diamond in a goats YKW.

Next is the hood of an LSP shell for my truck I never run. The shell is still not cut out so I don't have any pics of it mounted.

Last is my half 8.

I've seen some killer paint applied by individuals for sure, but I've also seen some truly amazing, jaw dropping professional jobs.

To be honest, if I could justify the cost, I'd get my paint done by a pro, but when you consider I get a couple of race days out of a shell before it's trashed, it's way cheaper for me to do my own paint.

Most of my paint is what I would call "10 footer" quality. It looks fine from at least 10 feet away, especailly when it's running around a dirt track. :D

The trick is to keep it on the wheels, and the shell will last longer. ;)

This question is kinda pointed toward Stan, but anyone can answer this if they know.

I am about to do the painting on my truck body. I have alot of idea's and believe me I am patient. the question is. I have the parma liqued mask. I am sure I dont just paint this on the inside of the body all over the inside. or is there enough in the bottle to do just that? or do I purchase masking sheet or (your suggestion here) mask it off and add the liqued mask to the area that I am going to be working with? the next question is, is the parma mask easy to peel off. I mean can I make intricate cuts with my knife and peel it off with little to no problem. I am using a parma body. finally. I tried to get an answer on this before and I got links to another website for a responce. say I wanted to do a marble look. can I take parma paint from a bottle and mix three different types of paint with each one having added more thinner than the next to achieve a lesser color than the last to an almost transparent color. and then can I blot with a sponge to achieve the marble look? if so which effect would work best, lighter to darker, or vise versa and I notice in marble sometimes there is a different pigment, so is it advised to add another tone or keep it simple. My thinking is to sponge dab the thicker color first, let it dry, sponge on the thinner color next, and then finish it off with the really thin color last and then backing it with a color that blends well with it but still allows it to be noticed.

You answerd your own question on the marble. Dark first with a plastic bag or sponge then spray the lighter color.
Liquid mask. Draw your design first then you will know how much/where to apply. MAKE SURE YOU GIVE IT 4 OR 5 THICK COATS.if it is too thin it is almost impossible to remove.

team3six

So coat it and let dry between coats, or coat the hell outta it and let dry?

PyroMike

So coat it and let dry between coats, or coat the hell outta it and let dry?First one, heavy coat let dry, heavy coat let dry....let dry over night and begain cutting and paiting. (cut out everything first the peal up the area you want to paint, there is a thread on here that I stated about liquid mask)

Also the marble look with the sponge dabing will work, and there is no need to thin the paint. There was an artical on that in XRC buy Mike Ogle. There is also other painting tricks alos in the custom works articals. (the past 10 mags, near the back of the mag)

The other site is CFX paint works which is Charlie Barnes (http://socal.rcracing.com/Page.cfm?InfoID=1971)'s web site, and some of the pro painters (some are even pros at automotive painting) hang out there (like the one who figered out how to do true fire on an rc shell).

Kropy, that is pretty sweet. I love the checker flag looking as if it is a real flag blowing in the wind, nice shading on that. Not that i could do it, but it woulds have been cool to see something like that on the pink part as if it is all just sitting on top of the body blowing. Other tahn that it is very cool.

I can see it, mainly because I have painted with the faschange paints so I know they are hard to see unless you are looking for them.

I bought a bottle of Auto-air Porn Star Pink. Haven't used it yet, but it's pink with blue metallic flake, it's definitely cool looking though!

my mom was a commercial artist for many a year so I'll just have her cut me out a few.If you go that route then have it so you only have one part of the stencil at a time that way it will be eassier to work with. ;)
You know you could pick up a vinyl cutter, then you can have it on your computer, then have a fresh mask when needed. You can also resize it if needed. The trade off is that a vinyl cutter will take some cash.

You can remove the paint with ELO (easy lift off) or brake fluid. As for the asphalt look I used a tooth brush to flick the paint one and a custom mixed gray (I need to add more white in it). Also if you look at grill it has a carbon fiber pattern. ;)

team3six
09-15-2006, 05:05 PM
I used both Faskolor and parma paint on the body, so this ELO will take that off? What do I do and where do I get it? and that is really cool for the asphalt look on the body, sorry to say you can't see the carbon fiber though. But I like it never the less. Sometimes simple is more attractive then the whole complex idea

PyroMike
09-15-2006, 05:16 PM
You should be able to find ELO at any hobby shop that has train stuff. hears a link to testos website Floquil ELO Remover (http://www.testors.com/catalog_item.asp?itemNbr=437) (I never used it, but have heard good things about it from people who used it)

Norm, thanks...funny though, I painted that before getting into CFX Project...it just took me for ever to do even that much on the body, and it's pretty straight forward stuff. And it's still a "good from far - far from good" result. Up close it has plenty of room for improvement. That's why I jumped on the chance to take over for Fester. I love the challenge of trying to match the great work of the guys you see in the "Pro" class. I should have it down in another 2 or 3 hundred bodies!

well help me out here, how do I do the carbon fiber look. I never have learned that. and well man I have alot to learn. This next body I have is pretty tight for it being my second car, but yeah. I could have done better. Sometimes it gets to the point of the old build a model syndrom. You cant wait to see the finished project. it is in your mind as sweet and you rush it and then it does not look that sweet. Example: the body I entered in the paint contest. I tried to duplicate TK's work with the pealed paint and well. He does it much better Duh! ZBut I am still working on it. Hit me up on that carbon fiber though. I could use the pratice. By the way your streaks and shading is very good on that body. I still need to learn that one too

davecnitrors4
10-26-2006, 07:19 PM
Ok, the carbon fiber detail (whisper) this is top secret stuff so don't tell anyone or they will throw me out of the magicians union.

Go to Target or Home Depot and look for rubber mat they sell for shelf liner. Even Costco sells it. It's in rolls. Once you see it you'll know it.

Cut a piece to fit the area you want to paint, and lay it in the body. You need to get it to lay flat and close to the surface. You might have to tape it in place so the AB doesn't blow it up. Decide your colors, then paint the color of the little squares. Take up the mat and then paint the other color. That's all there is to it.

team3six
10-26-2006, 07:25 PM
That easy huh? Dave I thought you guys were individually cutting them out of the mask, lol. Now I am an idoit. As you can see I did a little on the last body with a kind V design. That sucked cutting that out because it was all looped from top to bottom. Then I pained it and realized I didnt care for it. It looked good as a clear body.

OH and Pyro. I talked to the prma guys and found out something. I guess i didnt need to soak the body with Brake fluid or use ELO. All i should have done is soaked the body in luke warm water with a little dish soap and after 3 hours the paint will come right off. And guess what? it works great. Save a body, ride an airbrush. (I can not believe I just said that)

Thats why you need good and bright lighting when you take pics (I need to make a light box soon).

Well, Mike it is a very nice paint job. Good job on the streaks. Still needs alittle work on them, but I really think you are getting much better.

XAC,

You fades are so fine....in person are they just as smooth? I'm struggling with paint particle size and how it affects the gradation tones in fades.

Share the secrets brother!

actually dave, these are some of my best. I've found to do the darker color first, and thin (reduce) the paint. On this body specifically, I thinned the paint out and held the airbrush back about a foot and sprayed light dusting, then as I move closer, I spray more towards the darker area.

Another thing that I do is use a lightbox that I made to see where the paint is going. With the lightbox or light source, you can angle the body just right and see paint particles on the lexan clear as day!

I'll try to get a pic of what I'm talking about when I do my next body which I'm either going to start tonight or Thursday night.

I follow ya.

I shoot with a white sheet over the bench. I might try the biege tape on the body trick next.

Thanks for the input!
