Welcome to this months Paint Competition. I would like to address some items that have come up in the past months competition.
-Why was the New Years Competition not judged?
There were only two entries at the time, and I gave those entrants another chance to enter another competition.
-Why are there so few entries?
I do not know, some people say that RC Infusion is an advertiser in the magazine, but I did not know that, and I do not judge this competition and limit the people that can enter the competition. If you disagree on how I judge the Competition please let me know and I will address the issue.
Also since Nitro is now a co-judge, he can still enter into the competitions, and so can I, with him being a judge, it does not mean that he has an advantage over the competition. If a judge enters into the competition, he does not have any input on who the winner is.
During the past few months, things have been great here in the paint world. I believe that many people are not painting, because it is too cold to paint, and many of us paint in our garages, and do not have the ability to control the climate in them. Mother Nature is probably one of the key causes of the low run in these competitions. Just as other competitions run low during the winter. I would like to keep the competitions simple until we gain more people that paint, and post up their work. I am going to put in some new rules for the competition, and I may change some factors in it.

Rules:
•You can enter the competition with any type of RC car that was painted by you, and no one else. If it was not painted by you, please have the person’s permission to post up their body before you post it in the competition.
•Please leave as much information about the body, paint, and technique as possible for the judges to base their information on. This also helps out painters that want to learn how you created such a nice body, or how to do something that they did not know.
•As many bodies are allowed to be entered as you want, but must be placed in separate posts under the correct forum.
•In the competition there must be at least more than two contestant’s bodies that are entered into the competition. Without more than two bodies entered, the competition will be ended, and the contestants may re-submit their bodies.
•The judges may enter the competition, but if they enter, they may not have any input on who the winner of that months competition is.
•If you would like to sponsor the competition with a giveaway, or a monthly prize please contact Daniel Hurrey @ HRDforever@aol.com for more information.
•If you would like to judge the competition, you can post in the forums, or PM, or e-mail me and I will let you judge a competition.

Quote from Derek:
September competition:

Since you guys are putting the time and effort in, I'm going to try and make this happen this month. In our next issue (December 2005) I'm going to make the Custom Works Column feature the bodies in these paint contest. I might not be able to feature them all, but I want to try and get them in there as inspiration.

Now I can't promise this as 100% yet, because I do have a planned article, but I think it would be cool to show our readers of the print magazine your hard work on line.

"RC411 Paint Competition!"
Quote for page 25 of September issue:

Quote:
"Think that you can paint? Most of us can barely get two colors to match, but some of you can throw down a paint scheme that could be right at home on a church ceiling. So we want to see if you have got what it takes by entering our new monthly painting contest on our website. Check out the forums and hit up the painting section for guidelines and rules. The winner will be featured here [the mag] and win a free 6 month subscription of XRC!"

"Don't forget that you guys still need to send the pictures in to our Racer Ride section. You can win a year subscription and some other junk like a Tee Shirt and XXX Main Video if you're pick the winner of the month."

Outstanding! Nicely done indeed Mustang! I appreciate your show stopper even more seeing it actually mounted on a chassis, and going into use. Trailer queens -uncut shells- seem lifeless and boring...to me anyway. 'No sticker' cars are my total fav! How did you manage to cut such sweet circles? -tail lights/rear bumper graphics- wicked sweet. Thanks for sharing your most impressive ride with us.

Many Thanks Nitro !... your comment means alot to me !.

I cut the graphics before i stick them on the inside of the car !.
Take some flexibel vinyl and cut the grapics out.
It's much easier to cut smooth lines if it's flat on the table instead of cutting on the inside of your body.
Then remove the part that you don't use (depending if it's a light or dark color).
Put some masking tape over it to get the graphic from the paper and then stick it on the inside of the body !

I precut the complete head and tail lights and peel away during the painting process !.
I get the vinyl from the decal shop on the corner, he's saving al those smal pieces he can't use anymore.. for me they're big enough en perfect to cut painting masks.

I hope it's clear to you all ?

Wow! I'm even more impressed to find you've done it 'the hard way'! I've only tried to mask like that once... I thought you had used Bob Dively's liquid mask..and maybe a few round stickers for the circles. Round isn't an easy shape to get right every time like that...ô¿ô= Thanks for sharing your masking 'secrets'. I like the very uniform way you've applied your fades...not to mention your color choices are really working well together...great design for your graphics as well. Outstanding work indeed! :)

Many Thanks !!.

Some more basic details.

After i made the yellow graphics on vinyl , i sticked them on the inside of the body (because i'm ending with this yellow color i start with the decal).. after that i masked the light blue parts with normal masking tape , following the lines of the yellow decal masks.
then i painted the nightmare (dark) blue, after that i remove the masking tape of the light blue part, before i painted the light blue i made some shades with black !!
then i removed the "yellow" decals and panted them flour yellow and finished with white

it's easy if you're doing it this way !

WOW!! I'm very impressed! Outstanding paint work indeed. I would like to know more of your 'toothbrush method' for laying out the star pattern -please!-. Excellent choice -and use- of colors... Your pin stripe accents are all very, very, well done. Very eye pleasing 'dynamic flow' to your entire car. I especially appreciate your painted details...it's not easy to make a 'stickerless' car look as realistic as you have. It's also most impressive to see it mounted on a chassis, and actually being driven. Thanks for sharing!

Very nicely done! Your 'rips' and flames look very smooth, I especially like the very sweet detail stripes you've painted on both. Your shading work is outstanding indeed! It's not easy to exercise such control..especially at first with an airbrush. I think it looks even better mounted on your chassis, and ready to roll. Keep up the great work! :)

It wasn't easy judging the contest this month at all..kind of like trying to dodge both barrels, and a reload!

#1 Professor Z's -Mazda 6.
Awesome doesn't even come close to describing your ride this month! My entire panel of four judges were all speechless when your car came up for consideration. First of all your design is so very far out in it's detail and execution, words fail. How do you keep all that in your head? -teasing!-. Your choice, and expert use of, colors is something special to behold sitting still... I can only imagine it tearing down the back straight doing what it does best ;). Which brings me to the point that you've actually mounted, and are using, your body -Major plus!-. Another plus is your car is stickerless. One judge especially enjoyed your use of 'carbon fiber'. We're all impressed with your front end treatment -grill, headlights, etc.-. The only minus at all is the spoiler is a tad on the plain side. All judges agree, you take top honors in the March paint contest.
Congratulations Professor Z!

#2 Mustang's -Mazda 6
Outstanding work Mustang! All judges agree your color choices, and fade/stripe work are second to none! -especially the dark blue into the lighter-. Your painted headlight 'eyes', and taillights are wicked cool! <- Some of the Judges' favorite!* Very nice touch that you've changed the 'attitude' of the Mazda 6 body to suit your personal taste, very well done indeed. Your design and layout are quite impressive! We all appreciate the fact that your car is stickerless. I'm sure you know how I personally feel about seeing a car mounted on the chassis and ready to go -Major Plus!-. The only minus we could come up with was..your spoiler seems a bit plain, even with the graphics. It might have had a bit more visual impact had you included it into your fade work on the underlying body? I hope you will find second place in this month's competition to be a rewarding victory among such tough competitors. All judges agree, you take the second honor for the March paint contest.
Congratulations Mustang!

#3 R Page -Tosolini Car
Very, very, impressive, and professional looking work! All judges agree the general 'flow' of your paint work is some of the very best. Your fade work is nearly perfect, as is your shading. Your stripe work is simply stunning! Your grill, and general head/tail light treatment is quite impressive -the 'eyes' have it! :) -. All judges -myself in particular- feel it's a bit difficult to appreciate the complete 'flavor' of a car without it being mounted on a chassis and 'ready to go'. The few distracting elements were the color choice of the window trim, and the fore mentioned not mounted status of your body. I hope you will find third place in this month's competition to be a rewarding victory among such tough competitors. All judges agree, you take the third honor for the March paint contest. Congratulations R Page!

I'd first like to thank my fellow judges -I simply grabbed the first handful of folks that really know R/C paint I could find. Y'all know who you are!- I express my deepest gratitude to everyone that took the time and effort to not only paint such amazing looking rides, but to take pictures and submit them here in our contest. That should warrant an honorable mention to each, and every one of you at the very least. Please forgive me if I've neglected someone, or something, as this is my first try judging here. I look very much forward to seeing what Y'all come up with for next month ;) Remember to always paint safe...wear your respirator -Correctly!-
