starting my own paint buisness...from the custom people I've seen on the web its a killer to buy some of these bodies and have them sit on the shelf forever because there too nice to race. My goal is to paint lids at a reasonable price and so you wont cry if you scratch it or roll it over...let me know what you think
I have like 7 bodies to do in the next 2 weeks but I can always do a few more :-D
lemme know what you think
the Floyd body on the 1st page is gonna be entered for next months June body contest, lol mwahaha

lmao slowly but surely it will...freewebs is kinda crappy and they only let you put up a certain amount of pictures so I've just been doing like one of each - if your ever interested you could always mail me and I could give you more pics :-D
Oh and I prefer to use www.xxxmain.com masks or go there to get a picture of what you might want if anyones interested :-D
I can do my own masks but some of XXX's designs are just sooo coooooool

Jeffs going to be happy with your choice of masks.

lmao yeah he is....depends on price
Cost of body+
paint+
mask+
shipping+
labor+
anything else
say like umm
right now I'm going to be doing a body for an 18b that's probably going to be black with blue flames / blue to light blue flames, either or...charging $35 - 45 bucks
touring bodies are like $20 - $30 for the body alone so it depends on what car your looking for and what design
after I start doing alot of them my LHS will probably start giving me better prices on bodies when I'm going to be getting a ton of 'em to paint, so as time goes on the prices will start to go down a little probably
all good :-D
lol hopefully if i get enough masks, Jeff will start giving better prices too :-D lol

did u do a car for a guy named Bentino Mortensen, because there is a picture of a skyline like the one on 2 fast 2 furious on www.hpiracing.com. go to gallery, and when the page comes up click on week one, and scroll down to the bottom of the page, there should be some pictures of the car. I see the side graphics r a little different then the ones on the skyline u did. and it also has an adjustable wing of which i would like to get one but cant find one, but thats a different story. anyways if u did that car i might be interested in u painting mine the same way. send me an email and some more pics of that car to sm_dynastypaintball@yahoo.com. Also do u ship to the location were the buyer lives and do u paint HPI bodys because thats what brand mine is.

i just painted my first body and it worked out great. instead of using traditional paintmasks i used a sheet of Pro Line flipside decals. It was easy, quick, and it looks great. Its an easy alternative that'll getr bodies painted cheap and fast. A whole sheet is about $4.

i was thinking of doing something similiar. i am a okish paiinter.i want to start airbrushing peoples bodies for a hobby.not really to make $$$$.,just to get some of my work out there and for people to run something a lil different.i would do 1/10th bodies.no micros or 1/18th scale,

micro bodies can be a pain occasionaly depending on the style...I dont really charge that much for bodies, most of it is the lexan itelf and shipping, I do it more because I find painting fun, both my parents work odd hours so I cant get a real job so its a way for me to make a few bucks too.

I post the pictures on my website, if you want as I get em done I'll put em in this thread
hey if anyone has a screen name on aol mine's R34SkylineGTRbhp so if your bored and want to talk about painting or just r/c cars in general I'll be on, dang rainy day , lol
oh yeah and the buisness is cool, I'm getting just enough bodies a week / month to keep me occupied and having fun without me having too many and it being overkill or too little and it being boring :-)

Matt, don't take these comments as negative, but I would like to make a few suggestions. First, get a better camera. Customers will go to you on two things: word of mouth and the images they see. Right now, you have word of mouth working for you and your camera not working with you. You need to look at slightly larger pictures to give people an idea of the depth of your work and a decent camera can do this for you. Take the bodies outside and get good lighting to really show off the colors. It'll take a bit of work, but can be done. The other option is to work with a white background. Use Dave's work as an example. All his stuff is brightly lit to show off the colors and the depth of his work.
Secondly, add some depth to your paint jobs. To be quite frank, your work can almost be done with a rattle can. Add some depth by putting in some streaks and highlights. It doesn't take that much time to do and sets you above the amateur painters. When doing streaks, use the color wheel and pick a color opposite your primary color. Streaks are an easy thing to do and add a world of depth. For highlights, add a touch of white to some of your paints to lighten them up. Very lightly mist the areas you want to highlight. The mist should be so light you can barely tell it's there.
Next, add some drop shadows here and there. Use a thinned down transparent black like charcoal or fastint. Don't overdo the shadows. Less is more. It should take 5-8 layers for the shadow to show up, so only lay down 4-6. It doesn't take much time either and really sets you aside from everyone else. Shadows should be extremely light and hardly noticeable.
You've got the talent, there's no doubt of that. I think with a bit more added to it, you'll move beyond where you're at now without the added costs of time and resources. People come to you for custom paint to dazzle them. Give them that extra step. (for the shameless plug) You can read more about shadows, streaks, highlights, and pinstripes as well as learn more techniques at www.CFXPaintworks.com.

hey Matt,
think your doing a great job!!....as long as your having fun looks like you can go in just about any direction you would like....good to see something other than "Cartoon" type graphics straight foreward and to the point...little practice you can go all the way Airbrushing the "Real Rides"...!! good to see and hear about someone helping to keep people rolling and not gougeing them just because they can paint an r/c body...
thats not "Talent" talent is what you have in trying, keep up the good work!
my only recommendations, maybe get an Air gun like a Sata Mini Jet...or something simular to help with bigger areas....or if you start getting more than 20+ bodies a week...
also helps if you get other accounts say like painting a helmet, gas tank etc......
and Experiment!! try different things...
remember AirBrush artist don't make mistakes,we just change our minds...
keep up the good work...!!!
and if you need bodies let me know we can get you rolling......
